SLA and Pix Processing Times
PIX_PROCESSING statusThe PIX_PROCESSING status indicates that your request has been successfully received and the payment order is already underway in the system. This is a standard and expected behavior within the Pix operational window, and does not mean the transaction has failed.
To ensure transparency and improve the integration experience, this page details what to expect during the processing of Pix payments and transfers (Cash-out). Most transactions happen in a fraction of a second; however, slight timing variations are normal and expected according to Central Bank rules.
Understanding PIX_PROCESSING
When you send a Cash-out instruction via Pix, it goes through a series of validations and transits between the originating institution, the Central Bank's systems, and the receiving institution. During this path, the transaction assumes the transient state PIX_PROCESSING.
This means that the systems are communicating to effect the settlement of the payment. It is the natural lifecycle of the transaction.
Expected Processing Times
The time intervals below are based on the Pix Time Manual established by the Central Bank of Brazil.
| Transaction Type | Expected Time | How to interpret the status | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Immediate Pix | Up to 1 minute | The transaction is in regular transit between the originating and receiving institutions. | Wait. It is common for final confirmation to happen in much less time. |
| Scheduled Pix | Up to 45 minutes | The instruction has entered the processing stage of the Pix arrangement on the scheduled date. | Wait for the transaction to complete within this operational window. |
Important: The times described above are counted from the moment the instruction enters the processing stage of the Pix arrangement (sending the order for processing).
When to wait?
Whenever your transaction returns a recent PIX_PROCESSING status (within the time window stated above), the recommended action is simply to wait.
During the message exchange between the different participating institutions in the Pix arrangement, a few additional seconds may be necessary for the validation and settlement of the transaction. No manual intervention or resending of the transaction is necessary within the expected time limit.
When to check again or contact support?
Monitor the transaction status actively, but respecting the limits:
- For Immediate Pix: If the
PIX_PROCESSINGstatus persists for more than 40 seconds, you can query the status again through the transaction query endpoint. - For Scheduled Pix: If the status does not evolve to completed or failed after 45 minutes from the start of processing on the effective day, query the status again.
If after new queries the settlement status remains unchanged well beyond the expected SLA, you can contact our support team providing the endToEndId or the transaction ID (as documented in the payment query), so we can evaluate if there was any systemic instability in the arrangement.
Remember: PIX_PROCESSING is a transient status. Always validate the final outcome of the operation in real-time via Webhooks or by actively querying the status endpoint. Consider the transaction finished only when receiving the corresponding final statuses (e.g., PIX_EFFECTIVE or PIX_ERROR).
